Mama Africa Empowerment (MAE) – Core Policies

A legal disclaimer

1. Child Protection Policy

Purpose: To ensure the safety, dignity, and rights of all children involved in MAE programs.
Scope: Applies to all staff, volunteers, partners, and contractors.

Policy Statement:

  • MAE has zero tolerance for any form of child abuse, exploitation, or neglect.

  • All staff and volunteers must undergo background checks and training on child protection.

  • Children’s privacy, dignity, and consent must be respected in all activities and media.

  • Any suspicion or report of child abuse will be taken seriously and reported to the appropriate authorities.

2. Non-Discrimination and Inclusion Policy

Purpose: To foster a safe, inclusive environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Policy Statement:

  • MAE prohibits discrimination based on race, gender, religion, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status.

  • Programs must be accessible to all individuals, especially marginalized and vulnerable populations.

  • Staff and volunteers are expected to promote inclusiveness and cultural sensitivity at all times.

3. Volunteer and Staff Code of Conduct

Purpose: To uphold the integrity and professionalism of all MAE representatives.

Policy Statement:

  • All personnel must act with honesty, respect, and accountability.

  • Conflicts of interest must be disclosed and avoided.

  • Abuse of power or harassment (verbal, physical, or sexual) will not be tolerated.

  • MAE representatives must respect local customs and laws while working in communities.

4. Safeguarding & Mental Health Policy

Purpose: To protect the emotional and psychological well-being of all beneficiaries and team members.

Policy Statement:

  • MAE promotes trauma-informed, stress-free environments.

  • Mental health resources and referrals must be made available to children and families in need.

  • Staff must be trained to recognize signs of trauma, depression, or distress, and respond appropriately.

5. Education and Skill Development Policy

Purpose: To ensure quality and impact in all educational and vocational training programs.

Policy Statement:

  • Education programs must be age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and inclusive.

  • Practical skill-building must align with the needs and goals of the community.

  • Participants must be involved in shaping their learning journey, ensuring empowerment and ownership.

6. Partnership and Collaboration Policy

Purpose: To guide ethical, effective partnerships with governments, NGOs, and communities.

Policy Statement:

  • MAE partners only with organizations that uphold similar values of equity, child safety, and transparency.

  • Collaborations must be formalized through MOUs and monitored for impact and compliance.

  • Community voices and local leadership must be central to all project planning and delivery.

7. Emergency Relief & Crisis Response Policy

Purpose: To provide rapid and ethical humanitarian aid during emergencies.

Policy Statement:

  • Aid must be provided based on need, without discrimination.

  • Safety and dignity of recipients must be maintained at all times.

  • Relief efforts should transition into sustainable recovery initiatives whenever possible.

8. Monitoring, Evaluation & Accountability Policy (MEAL)

Purpose: To ensure transparency, continuous learning, and measurable impact.

Policy Statement:

  • All programs must have clear objectives, indicators, and feedback loops.

  • Regular impact assessments and community feedback sessions are mandatory.

  • Complaints and concerns from beneficiaries or staff must be taken seriously and acted upon transparently.

9. Media and Communications Policy

Purpose: To protect beneficiaries and maintain ethical storytelling.

Policy Statement:

  • Informed consent is required before using any images, stories, or videos of individuals.

  • Communications must uphold dignity and avoid exploitative language or visuals.

  • All media must reflect MAE’s values of hope, empowerment, and unity.

10. Environmental Responsibility Policy

Purpose: To integrate sustainable practices in all operations and projects.

Policy Statement:

  • MAE commits to minimizing environmental harm through responsible use of resources.

  • Education programs should promote environmental awareness and action among youth.

  • Partner organizations are encouraged to adopt eco-conscious practices.
